2018 Board Elections

Women In Design : New Mexico is having its annual call for nominations for open Board and Officer positions. We welcome expressions of interest from both men and women, and from both people already involved in Women in Design and people not yet involved that have specialized expertise to offer our growing organization such as accounting, legal, media relations, or organizational skills.

Currently we have 8 open Board Member positions, including the PR Committee Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary for WiD:NM up for election.  Please see BELOW for a full description of these roles on this page.  If you are interested in running for any of these positions, please email widinnm@gmail.com by 5:00 pm February 28th with the following:

  • your name
  • the position you are interested in
  • a short bio and what you feel you could bring to our organization and the position.  (250 words max)
  • a headshot to be included in election material

We will announce the slate for elections on March 1st, and advertise candidate information on our website.  Voting will run from March1 – March15, only WiD:NM Members will be allowed to vote in the elections. * You do not need to be a member to run but will be required to become a member upon election.

Board Status: 4 existing members are currently mid-term as they were elected in 2017 for a 2 year term, Noreen Kramme (Chair), Jillian Baloy (Events Chair), Shiree McKenzie (Board Member), and Christine Williams (Board Member).

3 existing Board Members, Deseri Aragon, Kari Fournier, and Megan Holubiak, are up for re-election in 2018 and intend to pursue re-election.

Board Member Position Descriptions

Job Description: Board Member    

Term:  2 years; can be elected for up to 3 terms

Board Members create the Board of Directors of Women in Design: New Mexico. Each is responsible for governance of the organization’s operations.  Responsibilities of the Board Members include:

  • Attends all Board meetings and participates as a voting member
  • Prepares for meetings by reading materials in advance
  • Provides items for the agenda as appropriate
  • Reviews and authorizes the annual budget
  • Regularly attends organization events
  • Assists in recruiting new organization members and board members
  • Acts as an additional set of eyes and ears for the organization and makes recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness
  • Reports to the Chair

Job Description: PR Committee Chair 

Term:  2 years; can be elected for 3 terms

The PR Committee chair has the responsibility for authoring and managing all media coming from WiD:NM. Responsibilities of the PR Chair include:

  • Ensures representation of WiD:NM through all media stays true to our missions
  • Coordinates with partner organizations for cross-advertisement
  • Authors and distributes a weekly newsletter and manages newsletter email list
  • Manages our social media
  • Sends Thank-you cards
  • Maintains records of our letterhead, logos, stickers, etc
  • Creates postcards and other marketing materials as needed
  • Maintains records of photography from WiD:NM events

Job Description: Secretary

Term:  2 years; can be elected for 3 terms

The Secretary is responsible for ensuring that WiD:NM has accurate and sufficient documentation to meet legal requirements, and to enable authorized persons to determine when, how, and by whom the board’s business was conducted. In order to fulfill these responsibilities, and subject to the organization’s bylaws, the Secretary records minutes of meetings, ensures their accuracy and availability, submits various reports to the board, maintains membership records, and performs other duties as the need arises and/or as defined in the bylaws.

  • Prepares for meetings by reading materials in advance
  • Provides items for the agenda as appropriate
  • Reviews and authorizes the annual budget
  • Ensures that proper notification is given of directors’ and members’ meetings, as specified in the bylaws
  • In the absence of the Chair, calls the board meeting to order, presiding until a temporary chairperson is elected
  • Maintains records of the Board and ensures effective management of WiD:NM’srecords
  • Ensures minutes of board meetings are taken and distributed shortly after each meeting.  At a minimum, minutes should include:
    • date, time, and location of meeting
    • list of those present and absent
    • list of items discussed and decisions made
  • Ensures that meeting minutes are approved at the following board meeting and a copy of the final minutes is maintained in the corporate records
  • Ensures that an up-to-date copy of the bylaws is available at all meetings
  • Ensures that records of WiD:NM are maintained as required by law and made available when required by authorized persons.

Job Description: Treasurer  

Term:  2 years; can be elected for 3 terms

The Treasure serves as the fiscal officer of WiD:NM in accordance with the Bylaws. The Treasurer has responsibility for assuring that the organization follows acceptable accounting procedures to preserve the financial health of the organization and informing the Board of Directors of the organization’s financial status and any anomalies that must be addressed. The Treasure is responsible for developing the annual budget and tracking and reporting to the Board adherence to, deviations from, and proposed changes to that budget.  Responsibilities include:

  • Works with Committee Chairs as necessary to assist in developing Committee budgets
  • Works with Officers and paid staff (if any) to create annual budget, taking into account:
    • Budget/financial history
    • Strategic Plan
    • Other anticipated situations
  • Presents draft budget to Board for review, modification, and approval
  • Assists in communicating budget allocations to Committee Chairs and managing their performance to those budgets
  • Is authorized to sign or countersign checks
  • Requests financial reports from Committee Chairs, Board, and paid staff (if any)
  • Reviews all information for consistency, completeness, and organization to assure that all accounts balance, all receivables and payables are being handled in a timely manner, and all supporting documents are readily accessible
  • Discusses any anomalies or inconsistencies with Chair to determine corrective action and/or policy changes
  • Reports findings to Board
  • Ensures that Form 990 and other required federal and state financial documents are provided in a timely and accurate manner
  • Is responsible for maintaining appropriate records for all taxes and licenses WiD:NM may hold
  • Discuss deadlines, fee changes, or anomalies with the Board for review
